On March 5th  K÷, a unique collaboration between kindred spirits: Jaz Coleman, Geordie Walker and Peter Hook, release a three track EP of brand new songs.

 

The K÷93 EP is released as numbered 10” on clear vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. Limited to just 2000 copies worldwide, this beautifully presented release also includes a gig flyer postcard and exclusive sleeve notes by Jaz Coleman and Peter Hook.

 

Recorded in 1993 at Peter Hook’s studio, the recordings were lost until November 2019 when Chris Kettle (formerly of E.G. Records) handed Jaz a DAT cassette at a record signing for Magna Invocatio in a London record store, remarking “look what I found”.

 

Remastered from the original cassette, the session “could be described as spontaneous and magical” by Coleman  “I think it surprised all of us. Peter encouraged the softer, lower tones of my voice. And then of course we emerged from the haze and went our separate ways.”

The debut EP from The Heat Inc. screams out to be played at excessively loud volume in a tiny, sweaty basement with too many bodies and absolutely no air conditioning. In the absence of such nights, you should thoroughly crank it in your living room and lose yourself in the full-blooded thrill of their lean, mean sound.

 

Released on 26th March through Melted Dino Records, The Heat Inc.’s self-titled debut EP is an unregulated fairground ride of riffs and hooks, swinging between raucous rock ’n’ roll and mellifluous menace.

 

The 5 song EP includes both the singles: Your After Love Song and Raptors.

 

Your After Love Song erupts from the speakers with its corroded garage-rock riff and will grip any listener at first sight and simply refuse to let go.

 

“Everyone who’s ever had their heart broken can appreciate this sublime single,” exclaims Larry “Ratso” Sloman, author of On the Road with Bob Dylan.

 

Raptors, a caustic slice of vitriolic rock ’n’ roll was hailed as “a perfect rock song” by Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age).

 

Opening track, Down In The City is essential commute fight music, while Sammy Swing Easy is easily the most soulful obituary never written by the Rolling Stones. Sleeper track, Polaroids, might just be the most noir song on the rain slick precipice of noise, featuring a sax outro from Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey) that’ll have you in a battered fedora in five seconds flat.

WALKING PAPERS 

NEW ALBUM 

THE LIGHT BELOW

Critically acclaimed Seattle rock band Walking Papers release their new full-length album, The Light Below, on February 5, 2021 via Carry On Music and is now available for pre-order HERE. 

 

“This album was different by design,” explains principal writer, vocalist and guitarist Jefferson Angell. “We wanted to pull the arrow back a little further before we let it fly. Music is a liner art form. It’s changes and dynamics are crucial to it’s magic. These songs are special in their approach to their own idea and I’m thrilled to share them with anyone who will listen.”

 

Preceding the album release whiskey-voiced front man Jefferson Angell holds court, telling his tales over bluesy riffs with an alluring darkness on the second single, The Value of Zero. Heavy, thrashing drums and distorted, dystopian guitars take things in an unexplored direction, the droning noise-rock crafted by Walking Papers’ Benjamin Anderson surges around romantically cynical lyrics that Angell delivers like he’s staring down the barrel of a gun. 

 

A digital 45 of “What Did You Expect?” b/w “The Other Shoe,” was released in August, as the first taste of the full length. About “What Did You Expect?” online rock magazine Loudwire stated, “The new song arrives with a darkly sinister vibe, with Angell letting his bluesy vocal and story revealing lyrics hover over the backdrop of a steadily dark guitar line and distinctive haunting keys.”

 

The Walking Papers will be releasing a limited edition version of The Light Below on double white vinyl, the week ahead of the official February 5th street date. The vinyl will only be available at participating Independent Record Stores (see stores HERE) that are part of the Record Store Day organisation as an exclusive RSD  title.

 

Angell recounts, “Where I grew up, we didn’t have sidewalks let alone a record store. My older brother and his friends would go on big city expeditions, and return with their vinyl treasures, and we would all gather around the turntable like wise men in a manger. Not until I was able to make my own way to the big city was I able to peruse the isles of wonder the record store provided – always a first stop if not the sole purpose of the journey. These days I’m fortunate enough to live a few blocks from the cultural icon Easy Street Records, a beacon of West Seattle.

 

“Between the internet and the pandemic,” Angell laments, “we have lost a few stores, including a personal favourite, Rocket Records in Tacoma. RSD makes a difference in the lives of these small business that have made such a difference in ours.”

Indonesian three-piece Speaker First is vocalist Mahattir Alkatiry and twin brothers Beny Barnady and Bony Barnaby on guitars. They became the first Indonesian rock band to gain US Airplay last year,  with their sound influenced by QOTSA, Wolfmother and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. 

 

To celebrate the release of Break My Soul, Speaker First play 3 UK and promise audiences to “Expect good music, raucous sound, and full throttle rock n roll sound from Indonesia, a highly unexpected region for such music. (March 16,2018) - Jen Ledger, drummer and vocalist of multi-platinum selling, GRAMMY® nominated rock band Skillet is signing with Atlantic Records and Hear It Loud, the imprint encompassing the creative team of Skillet’s John & Korey Cooper and longtime manager, Zachary Kelm. Billboard exclusively announced the news yesterday.

 

"From when I started working with Skillet 10 years ago, I was immediately impressed with how vibrant and talented Jen Ledger is," Pete Ganbarg, President, A&R, Atlantic Records shared with Billboard.  "Her voice is so unique - and has become such an identifiable part of Skillet's sound -  that we've waited for most of the past decade for the moment when she would finally be ready to release her own music.  What she's been working on with John and Korey Cooper, as well as with Seth Moseley and others, shows that the wait has definitely been worth it." 

 

Her self-titled debut EP, LEDGER is set to release April 13. “We had been wanting to be in another rock band,” explains Aguilar. “All Souls also reunited us with Toshi Kasai who produced three of our Totimoshi records. He has his own approach. It’s almost like you enter into a different world with his production. Each song becomes like a journey, and nobody curtailed that. We were all on the same page.”

 

All Souls was recorded at Sounds of Sirens Studio. Tool drummer Danny Carey guests on “Sadist/Servant.”

Let The Devil Drown is the first single from Ian Burden, a tuneful sumptuous singalong, laced with dark humour through-out. 

Released on Rutland Artspace Limited label,  Let The Devil Drown was created performed and produced by Ian, and is the first single from the new album Hey Hey Ho Hum set to be released in March 2018.

 

Ian Burden put in 7 highly prolific years during the 80’s as a member of the Human League, in the imperial phase.  As keyboard player and composer, he co-wrote ‘Do Or Die’, ‘The Sound Of The Crowd’ and ‘Love Action’ on the ‘Dare’ album, as well as Mirror Man amongst others.

 

After limited involvement with music over the last 30 years Ian has now recently fallen back into it, in an unplanned way -  “A collection of vintage synthesizers were shamefully gathering dust in an attic, and deserved better fate. Some of them had done service with The Human League and other projects, and might be of use to somebody. Their condition needed investigation to see if they were in working order. Being modular units they required connection to a keyboard, which then led to routing through computer software, which in turn gave rise to riffs and rhythms. Chords and singing easily fell alongside, so I started recording.”   The first song released from this endeavour will be Let The Devil Drown.

On 24th November 2017 BMG proudly release Gary Moore’s Blues and Beyond, a remarkable collection of his powerful and emotive blues studio recordings. Blues and Beyond is released on double CD, 4 LP and as a box set, which includes unreleased live recordings and the official Gary Moore biography I Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow written by Harry Shapiro. 

 

Best known for his evocative solo hits, Parisienne Walkways and Still Got the Blues (live versions feature in this set), and his on/off membership of Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore’s solo career comprises over twenty albums. Throughout the 1980s, Gary moved up the rock hierarchy, but turned his back on what he regarded as the empty flash of metal and reverted to his heart music – the blues – where ironically he scored his biggest commercial success through his 1990s and 2000s blues albums.

 

As well as running his own bands, during a successful solo career, Gary mixed with the best that rock and blues could offer, playing live and on record with George Harrison, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Greg Lake, BB King, Albert King, Albert Collins and many others. Gary was also the guitarist many looked up to, not just for the terrifying speed of his fretwork, but for the passion, fire and honesty in his playing.

Three years in the making, I Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow is the official Gary Moore biography written by acclaimed music writer Harry Shapiro, who was given exclusive access to Gary’s family, friends and musicians.

 

Spanning Gary’s five decades as a professional musician, the story begins with his early, troubled life in Belfast which he dealt with by honing his extraordinary talent in private, becoming recognised as one of the city’s best guitarists even while still at school. Leaving home at 16, the guitar prodigy began a tumultuous career first in Skid Row then, aged only 19, an abortive attempt at running his own band and then on through the Seventies switching with consummate ease between the hard rock of Thin Lizzy and the complex jazz rock of Jon Hiseman’s Colosseum II. 

 

But even as a kid, Gary was telling his friends that he always wanted to be the frontman, never a guitar for hire. His solo career finally took off in 1979 with the chart single “Parisienne Walkways”. Throughout the 1980s, Gary moved up the rock hierarchy, but turned his back on what he regarded as the empty flash of metal and reverted to his heart music – the blues – where ironically he scored his biggest commercial success with the 1990 album, Still Got The Blues, selling over 3 million copies worldwide.

 

Gary never found life easy. He had demons to battle, could be his own worst enemy and made quite a few extra ones on the way. But when he suddenly died in 2011, the outpourings of admiration and grief from fellow musicians and fans around the world was heartfelt. As Harry Shapiro says “I would never have written a simpering hagiography. Hopefully this account will come across as honest as the man himself”.

Paul Cook and Paul Myers were reunited on stage touring with Vic Goddard’s Subway Sect. There the idea sprang to revisit The Professionals.  New frontman and guitar player Tom Spencer  was invited to come to rehearsals, to sing and play guitar while Steve Jones was being lured back to the UK to join.  As it became obvious Steve wouldn’t be heading over, and with rehearsals feeling better and better - the new line up was born.

 

The Professionals are also joined by a stellar cast of guest guitar players including original member Steve Jones (who plays on three tracks).  Duff McKagen (Guns ‘n’ Roses), Mick Jones (The Clash), Phil Collen (Def Leppard), Marco Pirroni (Adam & The Ants), Chris McCormack (3 Colours Red) and Billy Duffy (The Cult) also join the party.

 

“In the studio we put the songs down as a three piece but what was needed was a second guitarist’s mind, to come from another angle.  Cookie dusted off his punk rock address book and made a few calls.  All the guests added their own unique magic.”

 

This energetic album features 10 finely crafted songs, full of rock’n’roll attitude -  including a tribute to Lemmy and Bowie, ‘Going, Going, Gone’.  Before closing with the Darwinian pop at world leaders ‘Monkeys’.

 

All the basic tracks were put down at Zak Starkeys studio, just outside London and were finished at Tower Studios in Pershore.  While the guests recorded in various studios, both here and in the US.  

 

What In The World was produced by Dave Draper with Paul Cook and Tom Spencer there to co-produce. The album is an aural treat, with no calculated image or reliance on nostalgia.

 

To celebrate the release of What In The World The Professionals play a special headline show at London’s Garage on October 28th  

 

“We’ve been adding a new track or two to live shows but can’t wait to try some of the other new songs. We’re buzzing about the album, and can’t wait to spread the buzz.  Of course there’ll be old stuff played too. We don’t cover Pistols stuff (apart from Silly Thing) but as the gig’s 40 years to the day from Nevermind The Bollocks was released, we might just add a cover or two!”

Blood’s heavy sound is partially attributed to CJ’s ill health, caused by a severe bout of food poisoning, resulting in two operations ‘I recorded this album in constant pain so that pushed me to make an album where I could just vent and let stuff out.” While the raw honesty of Blood’s lyrics stem from “letting out the negative emotions that were bothering me.”

The SoapGirls proudly announce the release of their new album - the angry, reflective and beautifully honest “Society’s Rejects” on August 25th.

 

The perfect balance of attitude, swagger and raw rasping vocals - Societys Rejects, is full of straight up rock’roll songs - tons of energy, flashes of anger and serrated guitar-driven angst. Nothing can stop The SoapGirls inevitable rise to the top. 

 

Arresting and compelling Society Rejects encapsulates and distills perfectly The SoapGirls live energy and replicates perfectly the thrill of their live show.  The SoapGirls uncompromising brand of music has been labelled “Revolt Rock’, a mix of revolting and revolutionary music. “Put it this way if music was a hand, revolt rock would be the middle finger, it’s there to piss people off make them think in this fucked up world.”

 

“Stand up, you know you’ll be shot down, life’s free but you’re gonna pay somehow” sings Mille on the opening title track, setting the tone for the whole album about society and how it “rejects anyone that tries to question the system. We are sold a dream of being free when in actual fact we’re not, if you do not conform and follow the guidelines society sets out for you you are vilified and rejected”

The energetic and diverse Society’s Rejects is full of finely crafted songs and rock’n’roll attitude. With unforgettable melodies and catchy choruses, the fifteen musical nuggets on the album include previous singles as bonus tracks: the primal and emotional break up song Rather Be Dead and the Bad Bitch, a caustic slice of vitriolic rock’n’roll. 

The SoapGirls also “bring humour to the situation with Party in Hell, life’s already fucked up so might as well rock the party however you like, the politicians are so why cant we?”

 

Society Rejects is “a kick in the face followed by a kiss, it’s raw dramatic angry and passionate with warped humour thrown in” and finds The SoapGirls at their full creative tilt delivering frenetic garage rock with heavy and psychedelic overtones with a modern twist.  Armed with a venomous swagger and catchy, riff-oriented guitar grind, backed up by their strong songwriting abilities, dedication and determination to their craft, The SoapGirls have earned them a formidable live reputation and this raucous force of nature with a love for screaming guitars, in your face bass, and raw vocals have delivered a statement of intent with their exceptional debut.

 

The striking artwork captures their vision and fights back for women rights “first of all society tells you to cover yourself and be ‘decent’ so in true SoapGirl fashion of course we weren’t gonna do that”.

Alluring, hypnotic and nonchalant The SoapGirls, the French born sisters Ca(Millie) and Noe(MIE) Debray, hail from South Africa and were given their name by the general public back in 2004.   “We’ve been The SoapGirls since we were 8 and 9 selling hand made soap and street performing for various causes, we did this 365 days of the year for 9 years”.  Displaced master musicians and political agitators - few can match the SoapGirls visceral sonic hypnotic beauty and soul.

Party In Hell UK tour 

The SoapGirls’ will be touring the UK throughout  the summer under the name Party in Hell Tour, in support of the album. The Party In Hell Tour will see the band bring their unique brand of ‘Revolt Rock’ to venues across the UK, including The Camden Rocks Festival on June 3rd and The Rebellion Festival in August.
